Respite Child Care

Child Care Respite (CCR) is a community support service that provides temporary child care. It is intended to help families who are in the midst of addressing significant challenges. Priorities for this service are families who cannot otherwise access child care support through family, friends, or community.

Benefits

Parents and guardians get child care support when they really need help and have the opportunity to become more aware of child care options and connect with other community resources. Quality child care can give children positive opportunities to develop new relationships and participate in new activities.

How it Works

Intake workers determine the suitability of the Child Care Respite program based on family situations. Services are determined through an intake, assessment and matching process with families and Family Day Home agencies. In many cases child care may be available within a few days.

Respite child care may be provided to families of children from birth to 12 years of age at no cost to the family. Child care is provided by selected government approved family day home (FDH) agencies located in Edmonton and Strathcona, Leduc and Parkland counties serving Edmonton and surrounding areas.
