Yellowhead Youth Centre (YYC) is a residential group care treatment facility operated and funded by Edmonton and Area Children and Youth Services Authority, designed to meet the therapeutic needs of adolescents between 12 and 17 and their families.
All clients at the Centre are placed in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the Child, Youth & Family Enhancement Act. YYC only accepts referrals made through a client's Alberta Children and Family Services Case Worker to the Edmonton and Area Child and Family Authority Placement Coordination Unit.
Yellowhead Youth Centre consists of a multi-disciplinary team of child care workers, psychologists, recreation therapists, program facilitators, aboriginal/cultural resource persons, house parents, nurse(s), teachers, contracted psychiatrists, the Management Team and administrative support services. YYC also has a partnership with Alberta Health Services – Addiction Services to provide assessments and/or counselling.
Yellowhead Youth Centre provides services for Intensive Treatment, Secure Services, Protection of Sexually Exploited Youth, and specialized Mental Health.
What We Do:
Yellowhead Youth Centre provides quality care to all clients and their families.
We are committed to empower our clients to enhance their emotional, mental and physical health.
We aim at re-uniting clients with their families wherever possible. If this is not an option, we endeavor to facilitate the client’s re-integration into the community through a variety of placements, such as group homes, foster homes or Supported Independent Living.
Why We Do It:
Yellowhead Youth Centre believes in the inherent uniqueness and dignity of every individual.
We recognize that, as human beings, we are social in nature and, therefore, must live cohesively with mutual respect for one another.
We assert that every person has the capacity to grow within a nurturing environment, to develop their inner resources, to assume control over his/her own life and to fulfill individual and group needs.
